Puzzled 'Em! -
"Puzzled 'Em" is a party game created in the 1930s. It is a game where photographs of well-known household object are taken from an obscure angle to make it more difficult to guess them. This game uses the fundamentals and foundations of how to take an abstract photo and utilises them to make the game a fun and enjoyable experience. It utilises things such as Angle, Composition and Depth of Field to create an interesting image which is hard to guess yet with a good look you may see a resolve. The idea of Depth and Tone help us craft a reasonable guess as we can picture out the very basic forms and shapes which allow us to make links back to our assumed resolve. It's an enjoyable game, however the real interest to me is the idea of how the cards were designed and the photographs within the card were taken.
Jaques-André Boiffard -
Jacques-André Boiffard (1902-1961) was a French photographer, born in Épernon in Eure-et-Loir. In the mid 1920s, Boiffard dedicated himself to research in the Bureau of Surrealist Research. Preferring photography to literature, he served as the assistant to legendary photographer Man Ray from 1924 - 1929. He was largely involved with Surrealism and was on the more artistic side of photography rather than real life situations. I find the image in the centre the most interesting as it's a very nice composition.
László Moholy-Nagy -
László Moholy-Nagy was a Hungarian photgrapher, painter and professor in the Bauhaus school. He was highly influence by constructivism and believe in the integration of technology and industry into the arts. One of his main focuses was photography from 1922, he was initially guided by the technical expertise of his wife Lucia. In his books Malerei, Photographie, Film of 1929 and The New Vision, from Material to Architecture, of 1932, he coined the term Neues Sehen (New Vision) for his belief that the camera could create a whole new way of seeing the outside world that the human eye could not. These fundamentals can be seen throughout his work as he has frequently taken photographs from obscure angles that can change how you perceive and interpret certain things.

Puzzled 'Em! Final Outcome -
Puzzled 'Em! Evaluation -
I believe this was an overall successful project. I made a successful card game that not only achieved the purpose of a game (tested by Thanh), yet it also achieved my desired aesthetic. It worked as on certain cards it took a good think to visualise what the object was or who the person was. One issue is that certain cards may not work with people not in our photography class. I could have resolved this issue by not pursuing this idea, I could have just stuck with my secondary idea of morphing and abstracting household objects.
